Job Title: Assistant Mental Performance Coach

Coach Reports To: Senior Mental Performance Coach (SMPC)

Location: Based in Dunedin, FL

Job Purpose

  • Provide support and delivery for all mental performance programs throughout the Toronto Blue Jays Organization. Particular emphasis on supporting the Senior Mental Performance Coach with programming in the Dominican Republic (DR) and the Player Development Complex (PDC) in Dunedin, FL. In addition, oversee and update knowledge management systems for the Mental Performance (MP) department.


  • Support programming and delivery for DR, PDC, and Blue Jays in-season affiliates, as needed
  • Support, develop and deliver mental skills programs to players in the DR and US
  • Conduct evidence-based workshops on MP topics (e.g. goal setting, mindfulness, etc.)
  • Support player’s individualized player development plans
  • Collaborate with High Performance staff (e.g., mental performance, sports medicine, sport science, nutrition, athletic training, strength and conditioning) as well as coaches and other Blue Jays personnel
  • Collaborate regularly with Sr. Mental Performance Coach (direct report) and Latin American Education Coordinator
  • Organize and maintain detailed and diligent records of player programs and all MP department documentation
  • Support early identification of potential mental health issues and refer to our EAP Director
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work with multicultural populations and a commitment to fairness and equality
  • Ability to work extended days, hours with frequent travel
  • Current Passport
  • Graduate Assistant (GA) role currently working towards a Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Sport Psychology or related field
  • Currently working toward certification as Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC®) via the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP)
  • Supervision toward CMPC® will be provided
  • Strong collaborative approach and facilitation skills with interdisciplinary emphasis
  • Previous applied experience in Sport Psychology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Represents the Blue Jays in a positive fashion to all business partners and the general public
  • Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software

Preferred Skills

  • Bilingual (Spanish) and bicultural background strongly preferred
  • Prior playing, coaching or managing experience
